HOPE – Protecting Britain’s Countryside
HOPE
Hope to Save Our Countryside
A grassroots campaign supporting communities defending farmland, peatlands and rural landscapes from inappropriate large-scale energy developments.

The HOPE Principles
H — Hope to Save Our Countryside
Protecting farmland, Green Belt and rural landscapes from industrial development that permanently changes the character of our countryside.
O — Objecting to Prevent Urban Sprawl
Helping communities raise informed objections to developments that threaten villages, farmland and natural landscapes.
P — Protection of Our Environment
Defending wildlife habitats, peatlands and heritage landscapes from inappropriate development.
E — Energy in the Right Places
Supporting sensible energy policy that delivers reliable energy without destroying productive farmland or sensitive environments.
Why HOPE Matters
Across the UK, communities are increasingly facing large-scale developments such as:
solar farms covering farmland
battery energy storage systems
wind turbines on moorland and peatlands
Many of these projects are proposed in rural areas where communities feel they have little influence over decisions that affect their landscape.
HOPE exists to support those communities by sharing information, raising awareness and encouraging responsible planning decisions.
What HOPE Supports
The campaign promotes a balanced approach to energy and development:
• protecting productive farmland
• safeguarding peatlands and sensitive landscapes
• supporting responsible planning decisions
• ensuring energy infrastructure is located in appropriate areas
• encouraging energy policy that is both environmentally and economically sustainable
The Vision
HOPE aims to connect communities across the UK who want to protect their countryside while supporting sensible, realistic energy solutions.
By sharing information, supporting community campaigns and encouraging better planning decisions, HOPE seeks to ensure that Britain’s countryside is protected for future generations.
